This guide was created in two parts:
1. Tips – This walks you through the process of creating, promoting, and hosting your event from start to finish, with clear practical advice and case studies from some key events.
2. Tools – Two essential tools are the schedule that helps you plan and keeps everyone aligned; and a detailed checklist that helps you stay organized and deliver the event while making sure nothing slips through the cracks.
If you are new to running events – it is recommend that you read through the tips section carefully before you start work on your event. Share it with your colleagues and use it as a springboard for discussions. Then print out the tools and work through each section with the relevant people. Keep the schedule and checklist handy and check off items as you get closer to your event. As you approach the big day and the workload and pressure increases, the checklist will be invaluable in helping you keep track of everything and making sure it gets done.
If you have more experience – you may want to start by printing off the tools, and integrating these into your established processes for running events. But don’t ignore the tips – even some of my most experienced clients and collaborators have picked up some valuable new ideas from reading through this section.
